Whenever the topic of spending restraint in Manitoba pops up, someone inevitably fires up the fear mongering machine and suggests that there will be "massive cuts to health care."
That's a total load of bologna.
The reality is spending has been increasing at a torrid pace over the past decade here in Manitoba - at more than double the rate of inflation; even when population growth is factored in!
Out of control spending is the reason why our province's net debt is increasing at about $50 per second!
Fear mongering about cuts really just means "I'm too lazy to think about ways governments could spend smarter" or "I personally benefit from inefficient spending right now so don't touch it."
To help people understand government spending better, we created this document (click here.)
It's a PDF slide presentation that examines three aspects of provincial government spending:
1) Short history of provincial spending over the past decade
2) How smarter spending can lead to better results
3) Examples of wasteful spending right now
